Dramatic landscapes, impressive volcanoes, relaxing hot springs, and unbelievable views of the Northern Lights are just a few of the reasons why people love to visit Iceland! It’s a country full of natural beauty, but what are the spots you must see when you visit? We talked to CAA Travel supplier WestWorld Tours about some of the places they will be seeing on their Golden Circle Tour of Iceland this fall!
The healing waters of this incredible spot cannot be missed when you’re touring Iceland—there’s a reason it’s considered one of the 25 wonders of the world! Immerse yourself in the mineral-rich geothermal spa and step out feeling more at peace with your body than ever before.
Sitting beside the southernmost village of Iceland’s mainland, you’ll find this incredible black sand beach featuring basalt columns and Reynisdrangar sea stacks. The black sand was formed by boiling hot lava that floated across the beach and then cooled and solidified once it hit the cold water. It’s a true scientific and natural marvel!
Enjoy breathtaking views of the ice cap Vatnajökull while you explore the lagoon! This is the largest and most active glacial lake in Iceland and gives you the chance to see many beautiful glaciers floating in the water. You might also catch a glimpse of some of the many wildlife that choose to call this area home!
Godafoss loosely translates to “waterfall of the gods” and once you see the waters flowing in person, you’ll understand why! The Skjálfandafljót river runs over beautiful cliffs that stand 12 metres tall, creating this majestic natural wonder.
Standing 60 metres tall, this is another of the incredible waterfalls you can see as you explore Iceland! With flat land below it, visitors can walk right up to the water wall—but be prepared to get soaked! There is also a staircase to the top so you can enjoy the view of the area.
Every 30 minutes, you can see this hot spot erupt, spouting water 30 metres up into the air! It has been active for more than 1,000 years—in fact, it’s the most active geyser in the country!
This is the largest glacier in Iceland, covering 8% of the country’s landmass! It’s the center of the Vatnajökull National Park and is a popular spot for activities like glacier hiking, boat tours of the lagoon, and ice-caving tours.
If you’re a fan of tomatoes, this is one spot you can’t miss! You won’t just get to explore the beautiful greenhouses—you’ll also get to enjoy a delicious menu consisting of delicacies featuring the fresh tomatoes around you. With their various varieties of tomatoes, there is always something unique and tasty to sample!
Húsavík is widely known as the “Whale Watching Capital of Iceland”. Since 1995, tourists have been able to watch the magnificent creatures that visit the waters of Iceland, with more people enjoying the activity each year. Whales, dolphins, and sea birds in their natural habitats are all possible to see during this adventure!
This incredible area is considered to the Iceland’s natural shrine because it has great historical and geological significance. It is the first national park of Iceland, established back in 1928, and it is even listed as a UNESCO world heritage site! Hiking, angling, and horseback riding are just a few of the activities you can take part in here. One of the most famous things about this area is that you can also walk between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates when you’re here!
